Wknd Watch: Kongsi

Cheap movie Wednesday is back, and this time we’ll recommend to you something we thought impossible before – a good Farid Kamil movie! Written and directed by the aforementioned Malaysian dreamboat Farid Kamil, “Kongsi” is a gangster action-comedy with the comedy part very much in the spirit of the Zucker-Abrahams team that brought us such inspired silliness like The Naked Gun films, Airplane! and Top Secret!

Starring Malaysia’s undoubted no. 1 film actor now, Shaheizy Sam, with hilarious turns from lots of familiar faces, this mainstream comedy is a truly delightful surprise as we found ourselves laughing pretty much all the way throughout the film, which is something very rare when it comes to Malaysian dumb comedies (which are mostly just dumb, but never funny). In fact, we’d actually rate this pretty much on the same level as that new Malaysian classic “Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah”.
