Godspeed You! Black Emperor live in Kuala Lumpur

Canadian post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor (GY!BE) is coming to town. The band toured and recorded incessantly in the noineties and gained a reputation for mesmerising live shows marked by orchestral dynamics, epic rock power and clunky, beautiful film loops.

Everything around them doesn’t follow the normal path of a rock band, a musical collective, a group of people that exist in its entity and express through its music. They went on a hiatus after 2002’s Yanqui U.X.O., but in 2010 they buried a lede about the possibility of new music when they embark on a long tour. ALLELUJAH! DON’T BEND! ASCEND! Was born in October 2012, their first recorded work in a decade.

Who are Godspeed now: in what ways have the people in the band from the beginning changed in the time of hiatus? Well you’ll only know if you come down to their first ever show in Kuala Lumpur and ONLY show in show in South East Asia.
