We’ve been getting a lot of inquiries regarding live shows happening in our city, so here’s our pick for original live music and gigs in Klang Valley this week.
Tuesday (10th Feb)
Feedback Open Mic @ The Bee Jaya One featuring Lisa Spykers & Amrita Soon | Free Entry
Open mic nights are never a sure thing, and are usually filled with half baked original music ideas and acoustic renditions of radio hits by your office colleague (most likely that senior executive trying to relive his youth and forcing everyone to play along). But for us, it’s a lot like vinyl digging, you never know what you’re going to find that night. If you’re up for discovering raw talent, Feedback is most likely one of the more noteworthy open mic nights in the valley, for their selection of featured artists. Happening tomorrow at The Bee in Jaya One (Petaling Jaya), the series will feature local folk-pop songstress, Amrita Soon, alongside traveling Australian musician, Lisa Spykers.
Wednesday (11th Feb)
Merdekarya Live In February | Free Entry
Located in Petaling Jaya, Merdekarya has been the nurturing grounds and platform for aspiring singer-songwriters in the valley since they opened their doors a couple of years back, and have recently announced a more regular programming for the venue. This Wednesday, catch psychedelic folk outfit Mystery Tapes (fronted by BFM Radio’s 33RPM DJ, Zack Yusof) live. Cheap drinks and a homely vibe.
Thursday (12th Feb)
An Honest Mistake Records Presents: Discovery Thursdays | Free Entry
To be honest, it has been a while since anything exciting happened at Laundry Bar. Long gone are the days that we look forward to heading down to The Curve in Mutiara Damansara on Thursday nights for some exciting local music and a packed venue, but we shouldn’t be too nostalgic. Laundry recently enlisted An Honest Mistake Records to program nights at the bar, and things are looking to improve since then. This Thursday night, the partnership presents ‘Discovery Thursdays’, a night showcasing new talent from Klang Valley, and will feature the likes of Saturday Afternoon, Killkissmary, Meliha Faisal, and The Fridays. Noteworthy acts includes the brooding folk sounds of Meliha Faisal, and Ampang’s underrated indie pop outfit, The Fridays, who will be releasing their much awaited album, ‘Verklempt’.
Saturday (14th Feb)
KL Cinta Makan Fest @ Zebra Square | Free Entry
Nothing beats music, food, and beautiful weather (TBC), and that is what KL Cinta Makan Fest is all about. With special acoustic performances by Lab The Rat and Halfway Kings, the festival will also feature various buskers to further compliment the food and music festival.
Je Ne Sais Quoi @ Minuit Init Gallery, Uptown Damansara Jaya | RM 15 at the door
Smack in the middle of Uptown in Damansara Jaya, Minuit Init Gallery plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a less conventional and abstract idea of love. Promising an intimate setting, the performers include the likes of experimental rock artists Raksasa, a solo performance by Zulhezan of Dirgahayu, Izuan Shah from Auburn featuring Aizat Amdan, Mystery Tapes, and Zalila Lee, all of which will be accompanied by digital projections by Zam Nayan and ITO.
Sunday (15th February)

End your weekend with a high note by checking out this gig featuring Singaporean instrumental / post rock outfit, Paint The Sky Red, alongside a stellar lineup which includes Deepset, Soft, Moi Last Von, and Loch.
