Singaporean singer-songwriter Seyra’s 5-song self titled EP has been out since July last year, but we’ve recently been made aware that said EP is now available for free download from her Bandcamp website. The tudung she wears will inevitably invite comparisons to Yuna, but musically she definitely goes in a wee bit different direction than Yuna by mining a more twee and indie pop sound in some of her songs in addition to the current favourite Canadian indie rock sounds favoured by most people nowadays (Feist, Broken Social Scene etc). Last October saw the release of the much talked about P Ramlee: Satu Indiepretasi tribute album, but only in the form of ringtone downloads. That bit of news saw countless people groaning and moaning for a proper CD of it to also be released. Well folks, your wish just came true courtesy of the good people at Laguna Records, as they’ll be releasing the compilation on CD this month.

Indie pop blog SEA Indie has just released their latest free download compilation, this time focusing on the Malaysian indie scene. Titled Mighty Melody, the compilation features a pretty wide range of pop sounds, from the classic sounds indie pop to the mighty crunch of power pop, the swirling jangle of shoegaze, acoustic pop and more. With a tracklisting that includes our favourites like Nicestupidplayground, Furniture, Ferns, Couple, Love/Comes, Yuna, Khottal, The Hollows and more, this promises to be one mightily melodic compilation indeed. It’s surprising that it’s taken this long, but finally Malaysian legend P Ramlee gets a proper, full-on tribute album. An initiative by XFM and Astro (and in keeping with the times), it’s quite unfortunate that the ‘compilation’ will get a digital-only release, which means that there’ll be no fancy cover art and booklet of essays and liner notes for us to pore over. Titled “P Ramlee… Dimanakan Ku Cari Ganti: Satu Indiepretasi”, even a cursory glance at the tracklisting should whet anyone’s appetite. Check it out below:

The 18th act on the compilation is a sort of ‘supergroup’ called The Ramlees which features Liyana Fizi, Najwa, Mira (from Tilu) and Yuna! You can listen to the songs starting 25th October on XFM, Era FM, Sinar FM and THR Gegar.

Crafted by the lads at Ikan Paos Collective and Luey Motion Lab (the makers of Tapau), Yuna’s Raya Oh Yeah seems like a song that many will be adding to their yearly Aidilfitri playlist, which stands out from the more traditional melancholic tunes we usually hear on the airwaves during this festive month.

Yuna was recently in America for some recording with her label, IndiePop. Turns out, she managed to squeeze in a lo-fi yet still eye pleasing video clip for her new song, Decorate. Directed by Jonathan Singer Vine, the video was shot on her Canon G10!

Yuna recently performed at the renowned music (and interactive) festival South By South West a.k.a SXSW in Austin, Texas. Check out the video below of her performing Random Awesome with her American backing band. Yuna wasn’t the only Malaysian export at SXSW this year though; other noteworthy Malaysians at the festival this year were Pop Shuvit, Akasha and NY based Malaysian, Shayna Zaid.

When singer-songwriter Yuna first emerged with her music, she melted the hearts of people with her demure stage persona and beautiful, serenading voice. With influences from a range of female solo artists such as Feist, Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette, this captivating songbird sings charming songs about life, love, and her guitar.

Directed by Ahmad Faris, a producer, freelance film maker who recently worked on The Hoppers dan Ahli Muzik.
