Moonshine & The Bee are hosting Feedback, a series of open mic nights. The series starts on the 6th of December, with special appearance by Liyana Fizi and Zalila Lee, and will go on every Tuesday at The Bee in Jaya One, PJ. Jangan segan silu, break out that song book you’ve been keeping in your desk, and give it a shot.

Another edition of Moonshine is set to happen this Thursday with Liyana Fizi, who just recently launched her debut solo album “Between The Lines”, set to headline. Fellow performers will be familiar faces from the singer-songwriter scene like Rashdan Harith and Zalila Lee and another not so familiar name in Dzamira Dzafri.

OJ Law (previously calling himself Law) is hands down one of our favourite Malaysian pop acts out there, with quite a few XFM radio hits to his name, the most famous of which must be the wonderfully Weezer-ish “Stopgap”. A few months back he dropped another fantastic track, this time a duet with Liyana Fizi titled “Fantastic Adventure”, with the promise of a new album coming soon.

That new album, Yesterday Is A Distant Dream, is finally here, and it’s another collection of awesome pop songs ranging from the Weezer-ish opener “Rooftop” to the mellower and more mature sounding “Yonlu”, not forgetting his trademark electro-pop tunes and everything in between. As is usually the case with him, it’s again another digital only album, which you can listen to and purchase from his Bandcamp page. Give the album a spin below.

Liyana Fizi will be launching her highly anticipated debut solo album this coming 11th of September at Bentley Music Auditorium and our ears managed to get a hold of a preview of the album, which includes singles such as Light Writing, Jatuh and her latest single, Kaku. Already contributing 2 songs (Jatuh & Last Notice) from the album to a remake of a Malaysian classic film, Azura, the album features 10 songs that will be sure to make it’s rounds on national radio stations.

Doors will open at 8pm, and tickets are going for RM35 (gets you a free copy of Between The Lines) and kicks off with performances by Narmi and Tenderfist (she mentioned about a future collaboration with them). The showcase will also feature guest performers such as 4Peniti from Bandung, the band that helped her record her debut, and a special appearance from Adzwan Ani “Yob” from local avant garde rajas, Sphere (also her former bandmate and co-founder of Estrella).

Former Estrella singer and now solo singer-songwriter Liyana Fizi will be launching her debut album “Between The Lines” very, very soon, and as a preview have also launched her latest single “Jatuh”, currently getting a very good amount of airplay on the local airwaves and which will also be featured in the upcoming remake of that classic 80s Malay film “Azura”. Recorded in Bandung, Indonesia, we can’t wait to have a listen to the album and see the kind of progress that she’s made since leaving the unfortunately short-lived indie pop favourites Estrella. A sort of NGO fest is happening this Saturday, courtesy of the Frinjan gang in collaboration with Gen-S, which aims to educate the youth on current socio-political issues and voting rights but not forgetting to bring on the rock, which they do with an impressively varied line-up of acts including Akta Angkasa, Couple, Harmacy, Khottal, Liyana Fizi, Monoloque, Massacre Conspiracy, Partimelovers, Tilu and loads more, with 24 acts in total.

We Malaysians just love free shows, right? And we sure do love them more if they involve some foreign artists as well. This Saturday Volkswagen holds a street party at Changkat Bukit Bintang for the launch of its 3 new models, the Golf, Polo and Scirocco. And for this special occasion, in addition to local indie stars like Bittersweet, Tenderfist, Liyana Fizi, Arabyrd, Atilia and a few more, they’ve also flown in The Veronicas and Leona Lewis just to entertain us. Sounds like a fun night out if you ask us!
