We first noticed Iqbal M during one of his performances in Penang sometime earlier this year. A natural performer, he wielded the crowd through his set, backed by some musician friends of his, creating quite a visual riot. Immediately though, some would say if Monoloque had a younger musical kin, Iqbal M could possibly take up that spot. A student of music in a local college, Iqbal sings mostly in Malay, and his lyrics aren’t as straight forward and would require a couple of listens to fully understand. Having said that, this is one act that is better appreciated live.

    scr keseluruhan:kamu mencipta identiti yg tersendiri..pengujahan idea(lirik)tiada yg sma spt kmu…
    cuma mungkin lagu2 yg bersifat abstrak ini blum dpt diterima oleh masyarakat umum krn bait2 lagunya tidak semantik pd pemikiran n hati masyarakat..pujian harus diberikan krn kmu bersifat bebas dlm mengutarakan idea..

    have to agree wif ayatolla rock’n rolla on the great finding. really different kind of finding. nice. good job. kudos to the weeknd! woohoo! but, yeah i dun think it is THAT monoloque’ish. i can see iqbal m do have his own identity. last but not least, i kinda like his malay style kind of song. simple. go iqbal m ! haha

    i think the similarities with monoloque lie only in the lackadaisical vocal style and vocal harmonies. Lyrically, of course it is highly personal writings of the artist’s, and the bahasa, well it’s ours so it don’t matter who it resembles,don’t it?
